This is the third time this has happened since 2016. In 2022, I was invited to speak at the Aceh Ulema Consultative Assembly/Majelis Permusyawaratan Ulama (MPU) in Banda Aceh. I gave a talk about how people make money through social media apps with another speaker, Kamaruzzaman Bustamam Ahmad (KBA), PhD who was my senior at Madrasah Aliyah. He is a lecturer at the Faculty of Sharia UIN Ar-Raniry, the author of the book Acehnology and former Chairman of FKTP Aceh (Forum Koordinasi Pencegahan Terorisme).

The main theme is to seek the formulation of Islamic law on “Earning Through Social Media Applications in the Perspective of Islamic Sharia.”

The organizers asked me to write a paper in the perspective of Information Technology (IT) on “How people earn income through social media applications and various applications that can generate income”.

Prof. KBA (Photo: the only one in batik) spoke on “How the tradition of seeking sustenance in Acehnese culture.” This was to answer the question: Does Islamic Law Need to Regulate Earnings from Social Media?

The participants of this event were exclusively MPU members and all the heads of the Ulema Consultative Assembly in Aceh at the plenary session. They invited three resource persons to provide academic studies on income from social media.

Prof. KBA, from a cultural perspective, discussed the traditions of the Acehnese people in seeking sustenance. Meanwhile, Abiya Hatta (Dr. Muhammad Hatta LC, MA) from the perspective of Islamic law explained how the normative perspective of Islamic legal sources of income from social media.
